Thank you for making the decision to begin this journey. No matter how you have come to this place, or who is supporting you or not (friends, family, inner critic), I believe you are making a good decision. Therapy is a place for exploring and healing. It is a place where all of you is welcome, even those pieces are that uncomfortable to share or have been hidden away. As a therapist, I am humbled, honoured, and privileged to be given the opportunity to walk with you in this part of your journey to becoming your full and authentic self.
If this is your first time in therapy, you may have feelings of overwhelm, relief, or even fear. Making the decision to go to therapy can be pretty scary as you look at opening your stories up to someone you don’t know, perhaps for the first time. I want to reassure you that the therapy process is here to help you grow and shift. I believe you come with everything you need to heal and move forward and my work is to help you tap into those things.
I want you to feel confident that as a therapist, I come to all sessions without judgement. I will support, challenge, and comfort you along your way. Together we will reflect on your journey so you can see where you have come from and we will evaluate where you want to go.
If you have been to therapy before and are returning to continue your journey, I’m so happy you have chosen this for yourself. Regardless of your previous experiences in therapy, positive or negative, you are welcome here to bring your full self. I am glad you are continuing your own growth. I hope that your time in therapy with us is a positive journey and adds to your sense of healing. As you return to therapy, remember sometimes we need to revisit things we once worked on as we figure out your new goals. I believe that “Life is like an onion” and as we peel the layers off, we find new meaning for ourselves and take that knowledge with us even when we revisit what seems to be the same issue again. It will always be a little different. I would encourage you to share your knowledge of past layers of therapy with us so that together you can create a trusting and collaborative relationship.
Therapy can be difficult sometimes and at other times will be the “breath of fresh air” for your week. However you walk into your session, know I am here to help you work at the pace you are comfortable with. I ask you to bring your authentic self to each session and embrace the process. Give yourself permission to fully experience all the emotions you carry and voice each thought freely. If you are not quite to that point, I hope you allow us to support you to reach for there. It is my genuine hope that every client who chooses to work with us, walks their healing path with compassion for them self, self-appreciation, and moves closer to becoming the person they deserve and desire to be.
